Rodney Anderson Out for the Season; World is Cruel, Dark Place

It’s a sentence that has been written far too many times; Rodney Anderson is out for the season. The news came Sunday evening in a release from the athletic department.

“We’re heartbroken for him. He’s overcome so much in his career, and if anybody can do it again it’s Rodney”, said head coach Lincoln Riley in the release. “He’s played a lot of great football and has a lot more ahead of him. He’s just a tremendous person and player and we’ll miss him on the field. But we know he’ll be with us every step of the way as a team captain, and that other players will step up in his place.”

Season enders are the worst to happen to anyone, but this one makes my stomach sicker than usual. It’s just unfair. This is not Rodney’s first go around with season ending injuries; he previously suffered season ending injuries in both 2015 and 2016 seasons. In 2017, he blew onto the scene filling the gap left by Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon with ease. This season, he was poised to do even better, with many predicting him to jump to the NFL in the offseason.

It remains to be seen whether or not Anderson will try to return for the Sooners next season, however knowing Anderson I believe that nothing will keep him from being back in 2019. We at The Schooner Blog wish him the best in his recovery.
